Thoughts about Tourists

A visual exploration of the contemporary tourist who seem to possess a compulsion to collect experiences. Looking at how the term ‘Tourist’ came only to be 200 years ago; it is a relatively new phenomenon. This project is a compilation of new observations and past experiences, documented in the form of film, photographs, and writings by myself.

This project explores the relationship between tourists and their environment. How their actions and movements, and even their attire seem to categorise them as a ‘species’ of their own. My body of work is for you, me and everyone that travels and has contributed to the tourism phenomenon.

Useless Polaroids

The act of taking a Polaroid film, instantly freezes the moment - and that is exhilarating. An instant memory of a souvenir that could be kept as a time capsule, much more precious than a digital copy. However, as I watched them fill up my wall and collect dust in the air, I thought to myself, “When did this excitement became an addiction to collect memories?”.
